Blast From the Past
Blast From the Past
I grew up relying on the $5.99 Fructis Garnier sales at Walmart. It brings back memories of fruity-scented hair and dealing with an extra dry scalp. Sometimes, I'd find myself back in the shower to wash my hair again because of all the white flakes. Head n' Shoulders offered a cleaner scalp, but it left my hair less silky after a silk press. Mane 'n Tail, on the other hand, reminds me of Old Westerns, probably because it was something my grandmother swore by, with Old Westerns playing in the background.
Pantene Pro-V was like an expensive splurge for the ultimate silk press. It was a trusted product, but it became too costly for me during my undergrad years. I once tried Equate on a stormy night in Atlanta, hoping for a solution. Strangely, I never finished that bottle. At my dad's recommendation, I tried Neutrogena T-Gel, which actually worked, but I never quite got used to the smell - plus, it was my dad's favorite.
It took a while to find products that were truly suited for my curly, more complicated hair texture. My hair is fine and requires a lot of moisture. While I look back fondly at the old products I once relied on, I'm incredibly thankful that Shea Moisture came out of nowhere and saved the day.
